Warwick students experience spontaneity

Dr Mark Farrall was presenting today as a guest lecturer at Warwick University, exploring the ways in which creativity can play a role in mental health work.

The undergraduate students on the Creative Arts module were or are interested in careers as nursery nurses or children's mental health workers. The workshop  introduced the students to examples drawn from criminal justice practice of applied theatre and drama, exploring how creativity and spontenaity can both develop chnage and be developed as part of change.

The students were also safely asked to experience the techniques with regard to their own lives: Dr Farrall said "The best way of learning about questions like how applied theatre and creative methods can facilitate change at a deep level, is to experience it oneself in a contained way. Even the more skeptical students appeared to get a sense of the power of action methods".
