New programme following Ignition's lead

'Today' on Radio 4 this morning ran a feature on 'Project Drive'. This is a new programme being supported by the charities Safe Lives and Respect. Project Drive is a one to one programme  offering support and for the first time shifting the focus to working with abusive individuals, 'rather than being on the victim to leave'.

Dr Mark Farrall said, "We fully support Respect's new position and recognition that one to one work can be safe and effective, rather than the orthodoxy that interventions must be six months-long group programmes.

As independent evaluation has shown, for almost five years, Ignition's 5 - 16 week one to one programme, Strength to Change, has been demonstrating effectiveness in working with high-risk men from families who are the subject of child protection orders due to intimate partner violence and abuse. Strength to Change has achieved excellent outcomes in keeping families together safely and happily."

The pilot for the programme will take place in three areas, including South Wales.
