'Live Scenario' training for social workers applauded

Over the last 18 months Ignition has worked with Devon County Council to deveop and deliver accreditted Motivational Interviewing training for newly qualified social workers in their Assessed & Supported Year of Employment.

This training is then consolidated in the 'Live Scenario' training where the social workers encounter the Greens, a family embodying all the complex issues of modern social work: step parenting, substance misuse, mental health, past domestic abuse and more. The students are then enabled to practice the complex skills of facilitating change with the family, with Ignition team members in role and coaching and facilitating the scenarios.

Dr Mark Farrall,  noted: "A common comment on the trianing is that  University social work courses leave one 'theory heavy and skills weak'. The Motivational Interviewing is really appreciated as a concrete set of skills, and an overarching approach to facilitating change', which is then practised in a fun, safe environment".

The Live Scenario training was appluaded as 'innovative' in a 2013 OfSTED report.
